Hello all, this is my first post. I need help with XP Antivirus 2008. My PC got this sucka today and I tried to disable it by going into msconfig, start up, then unchecked the rogue program and rebooted in safe mode. However, when I got to the windows log in screen, I cannot log in. I tried the user account and the admin account. Please help.

Hello,

The links that Shoe provided did not work for me either.

I suggest running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which can be found here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

(Please note Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware offers a free version and a pay version - Please use the free version for now.)

Install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and once installed open it. Once your in the main interface, be sure to update the definitions! Once it is updated, then run a full scan - delete everything it finds.

If you are still experiencing problems after running Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, please inform us.

Thanks.

I know its a virus. I pulled the hard drive and hooked it into another CPU and ran a virus scan. It picked it up and quarantined the virus. However, when I rebooted and re-scanned, the virus was detected again. I've done it now 4 times and it keeps finding and quaranting the virus. Each time the virus is in a different location. I also tried the Malware with no luck.

This is normal to happen for rogue malware - Your going to need to submit a HJT log for analysis to completely remove this.

Basically even though it says the rogue app. has been removed - There are still remnant files remaining which can't be removed via methods such as Anti-Malware scanners - A Powerful tool such as HJT can generally in most cases remove it.

I suggest to not post a HJT log on these forums - You do not know if your receiving propper help with this forum. HJT is a powerful tool and one minor mess up could equate to a serious system mess up.

I highly recommend posting your HJT log in a forum affiliated with either ASAP or Unite.

ASAP - http://asap.maddoktor2.com/
Unite - http://www.uniteagainstmalware.com/
