I had puper.dll and some nasty spyware. I've got it removed, I think.. but now my C: Drive tree has been replaced with ONE FOLDER called !KILLBOX
I never ran killbox on the system, but one of the tools I downloaded may have. How do I get rid of this directory and get my tree back. - Appreciate your help
Ron

Its the only directory I see when I go to My Computer.. or the CMD prompt. Is it still ok to delete it ??
Ron

I would not delete it yet. If you can post a Hijack This by the following instructions so we can see what may be causing the prob.
You can download Hijack This at this link http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.
Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor at this forum.Do not fix anything yet unless you know what you are doing. This is a powerful tool that can crash the computer if used improperly.

Here you go..

Looks like you have smitfraud (pulper) still on your computer. We will need to make sure the file exist before we try to remove it.
Please download SmitRemFix from this link http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php
Next go offline, turn off your antivirus to prevent in from interfering with the extraction process.
Then extract the contents to your desktop.
Open the "SmitfraudFix" folder and double-click "smitfraudfix.cmd"
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
Do not run optioin #2 as the desktop background will be removed if no infected files are found.
Be sure to turn your antivirus back on before getting back on line.

Now for the fix. There will be more to to clean-up after you get this done. After running option #2 look at my computer and let me know if !killbox is still replacing C:.
Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the "SmitfraudFix" folder again and double-click "smitfraudfix.cmd"
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files. You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing " Y " and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if "wininet.dll " is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing "Y" and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txtAlso post back with a new Hijack This log.

I ran Option 2, and the only folder that displays is still !Killbox. I am going to do the safe mode thing in about 1 hour, and will post results... thanks so much for your help so far..
Be back
Ron

Really strange.. when I boot in SAFE mode, I get to the desktop and the system freezes.... the mouse, everything. I can reboot normally and use the computer without freezing.. any suggestions ?
Ron

Not a clue, there could be many reasons.
First try to boot into safe mode one or two more times if no luck, try this, boot as if you are trying to boot into safe mode. Then instead of selecting "safe mode" at the option screem choose "last known good configuration" and follow the prompts to boot from there.
We will probably have to start all over but may be one of two options to keep the computer from crashing.
We will need safe mode to fix the computer.
