www.vredsearch.net redirects google searches

Specs: Windows XP
When I search using Google, the search results link takes me to obscure pages associated with the web address www.vredsearch.net. This web address flashes in the browser before the address for the unrequested site emerges. This happens when using Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. If I cut and paste html presented by Google into my browser bar, I get to the correct page.

Since my original note, I blocked www.vredsearch.net using internet tools, and when I tried to search using Google, I was directed to a page from Google citing my computer's activity as suspicious and requiring me to type in a key code. I typed in the character code shown repeatedly but could not move past. So I unblocked vredsearch and now I am back to redirected searches.

How can I remove what appears to be malware?

You may have an unwanted rookit installed. Run these 3 progs in EXACTLY the order listed and do not reboot until the last scan is done:
1- rkill.exe
2- tdss killer
3- Malwarebytes
run a quick scan and fix all it finds, then reboot.

If that fails to remove the problem, do the same in safe mode.
