I keep getting a screen popping up whenever I go to a website. Here is the URL of what keeps popping up on my computer. Never had this before.

Also lots of other popups. I will used Spybot and the HJT log examiner link. Also ran AdAware. I cleared a bunch of stuff off, but this popup keeps coming back.

Thanks so much!

I downloaded the VX2 cleaner, but the screen I get with AdAware does not have the buttons the website says I need to punch to get it to run. HJT says I need to get rid of updatetc.exe by deleting it manually. When I try to delete it, I get an error message that it is in use. AdAware found it and I checked it to delete it. AdAware said it was deleting it, but when I went back to HJT it was still there.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks!!
Nanci

Try deleting the 'in use' file in Safe Mode (press F8 on boot-up) otherwise you need a free utility called 'moveonboot'. Post back if you need a link for this.

Like johnr said, you should be able to
delete that file in safe mode.

Have hijackthis fix this line and reboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tpcupdater] C:\WINDOWS\updatetc.exe

You need Ad-Aware se personal, build 1.05
for the add-on to work.

Recently, i was infected with ad-a-w-a-r-e trojan that I could not remove even after multiple scans with Mcafees virus, firewall, ad-aware, hijackthis, and a couple of other programs.

The problem I had was that every five minutes or so, these popup ads would appear on my screen advertising for cars, personal dating, annoying smiley face downloads, and even one for spyware removal (which I found ironic)

A screen would pop up that was from ad-w-a-r-e.com and then it would transfer to some other site. I couldn't do anythign to get rid of this problem!!! Well I searched the web forever for a solution and after a couple of days of agony and almost going crazy I found the solution.

For those who are suffering like I did with constant pop-up ads from ad-w-a-r-e.com the situation's been resolved.

It turns out I'd been infected by 'Look2Me', the common name for the 'VX2.BetterInternet' trojan. Here are the steps I took (BREAK@MMX YOU ROCK HARDCORE!):

1. Internet Explorer > "Tools" Pulldown > "Internet Options..." > "Advanced" tab > Turn off all the 'Install On Demand' as well as 'Enable third party browser extensions'. That'll keep it from being downloaded in the first place.

2. http://downloads.subratam.org/VX2Finder9x(126).exe > Run From Current Location. This will wipe it out if you do have it.

hope this helps everyone! Good luck! and thank me later!
