Worm: computer will not start

Last night I discovered a worm on my computer, upon removal the computer shut down and now won't start up. It loads up to the windows logo then shuts down again and starts up.
For several weeks I had a problem of getting logged out of forums/email finally found the worm and now things are much much worse.

That's an interesting tale and mercifully short. But if the task is to get it working, it would be a real good idea to say what worm and how it was removed.
