Won't boot up

My computer will not boot up when I turn it on. Any suggestions??

1- is it a desktop or laptop? 2- Are there any lights when you plug it in? 3- Is the fan on the power supply working when you turn on your PC? Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers

It's a desktop and when I turn it on the windows screen pops up but will not go on to my desktop screen. I think the fan is working

could be a number of things, failing power supply, etc We need lots more info: 1- computer make 2- when did it work fine? 3-Do you have an install CD? Have you tried tapping f8 on boot up and going in to safe mode? If so, does it get to the desktop? Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
