In a move that shouldn't surprise many, M$ has indicated its plan to scrap Live OneCare since the paid program apparently failed to grab the attention of PC users. Although, M$ plans to offer Morro for free, it is likely to not catch on either IMO for at least three reasons:
1.) It is not bundled with Windows, thus limiting its reach to potential users.
2.) There are more than a few distinguished programs already in that market with loyal following & M$ isn't going to spark these users interest, let alone grabbing them overnight.
3.) WLOC rating was quite dismal at best & people are going to remain highly skeptical of any type of security suite coming from the "Windows" family.

It's a shame, MS provide the patches and know the vulnerabilities of their OS's.
You would think they could provide the very best in security applications.
Could it be that to provide the Windows most powerful, all encompassing security suite, that they could be releasing vulnerabilities only they are aware of via reverse engineering?

I doubt that.
The problem IMHO is: PC security isn't something you can half ass ... you either put out something top-notch or leave the job to someone else.
M$ arguably has the resources to come up with a robust & efficient security suite, but they aren't all that inclined since they won't be able to get away with embedding the program into Windows without being accused of anti-competitive tactics.
If they had their way, they'll prefer to offer that package with Windows for free ;-)
