Subject: Wireless Security?OS: NACPU/Ram: NA |
Comment: Hi All. About a year ago I read about 15 different articles talking about wireless security(or lack there of), I read about programs such as "AirSnort"(WEP Cracker) and NetStumbler(Scanner). The impression I recieved was that it takes millions of sniffed frames to crack the WEP key, and that WEP really isn't secure. I came across this article today: http://www.oreillynet.com/cs/user/view/cs_msg/26023 Is a wireless network "secure" if WEP is used? What other protection, if any, should be used with it? David

Reply: (edit)WEP makes a wireless pretty secure... You can make it more secure by enabling filtering... this process allows you to enter into the routing tables the MAC address of each device you want to allow on your wireless network...any device that sends out packets that does NOT include the MAC address you have allowed will not be allowed into the network... But then the real question is...is ANYTHING really secure??? Steve
