I have a very strange virus, and want to know if anyone's run into it. Norton's control center won't open, instead just displaying a "Thanks for Using" screen with a nonfunctional "Next>" button. Autoprotect says it's enabled, but since the control center won't open, I'm suspicious. Of course, without control center, a scan can't be run! Other strange behavior is that IE won't download anything, like Ad-aware, that I tried to pull to check things out. Stranger still, Windows Update page never loads, instead displaying a blank screen. Lastly, the Search utility in Windows comes up with a blank search criteria pane on the left part of the window.

Anyone seen this? Thanks.

you might want to try some online scans and see if it finds anything...i think norton and trend micro both have online scans available...

You are probably overloaded with spyware.
try these after you up-date them:
First use
Crap Cleaner (it will eliminate most cookies and make your scans take less time)
Spyware Blaster
Spybot S&D
Then try an active X On-line Spyware Scan
and then see how you make out

If you need an online virus scan try BitDefender, it does a good job. I would stay away from Panda....too many false positives.

Oh, also d/l Microsoft Defender and run that.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
