Hello,

I've been trying to lock down my computers and fell in love with Windows Steady State... on my Vista machine at least. For some reason I get blue screen of death when I try to install it on my XP machine. Does anyone know of any similar programs, preferably free?

P.S. Reinstalling XP or upgrading to Vista is not an option at this time.

Never heard of that but I'm all for locking down.

M2,

Look HERE for Windows SteadyState download and HERE for the user handbook. As always read everything first before you try it.

Benhermies,

Please describe for us the BSOD you got. Maybe we can help you overcome it.

Otherwise the only alternative to Windows SteadyState that I know of is DeepFreeze by Faronics. Unfortunately it is not free. FYI many of the Public libraries & Internet cafes use this product. It may be worth the money.

XPU,

Back in the day...

When I used to run computer labs with w3x, I had a bat to rewrite all the INIs etc. Those days are lon gone.
