Specs: Windows XP

i am running a XP machine.

My computer goes into Windows but no desktop icons appear. I can press CTRL + ALT + Delete and the mouse works

Can somebody help me to load my desktop icons and therefore allow me to use the computer

Within the taskbar I have tried File: New Task run and to find the explorer.exe file

However, it doesnt load. When i try and browse the file, within C: WINDOWS, there is a file called explorer.scf

I try to rename this to .exe but it still doesnt work

What should i do?

Hi,
I have a similar problem and a temporary fix.
When the icons and taskbar didn't load, I restarted my computer and it went to the blue screen requesting a disk check (before going to the desktop). I let it go through that and when it was done, my desktop loaded with everything in place.

Most of the times I start up the computer it will do this, therefor there is alot of restarting and waiting.

I am still looking for a permanent solution, but this works for me for the time being.

Hope this helped.

Why not do a system restore back to when it worked properly?
If that doesn't work, why not right click on the desktop and click on show icons?

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
