Specs: Windows XP
everytime i go to open up a movie or mp3, i get a popup that says The program is missing a required codec, and wants me to click on a link to download software, it looks as if the popup window is made for vista or win7 but im in xp, i know this isnt microsoft software, and i have a full, current purchased copy of spyware doctor and malwarebytes, and neither of these are picking up the problem, please help, let me know if i should post a hijackthis log

... you could try this (freeware) first: Media Player Classic with built in codecs

Also you can go for Kmplayer or VLC media player as well.
