Comment:
i have dell inspiron 630m laptop and windows xp (sp2) is my operating system . Recently when I opened an attachment from an unknown person (birthday.zip, which i scanned before opening through mcafee..which is of no use !!!..) it poped up a window named dwwin.exe and said " The application is failed to initialize because the windows station is shutting down" and simultaneously my CD tray also ejected ( no CD was there) and in background it started to end program "realplay.exe" then 'Shellconhiddenwindow". And ultimately it logged off . Now if I relogin or restartmy pc the same thing is happening . Sometime its showing end program of 'mpftray.exe' or 'flash player 5.0 r 30' or 'osa.exe' etc. Now I am not able to log into the normal mode , though safe mode is working. After some analyzation I understood that after starting windows XP , it immediately shuts down , so whatever program tries to launch it ends , as windows itself is shutting down / logging off. I did virus scan through mcafee ( which i started to believe a junk !!!) , spy bot , Xoftspyse but none shown a virus . I think by opening the birthday.zip attachment somewhere some system key's value got configured to log off/shut down . I replaced dwwin.exe ( which i understand a error reporting tool of my op sys) from another xp , sp 2 m/c..but that did not solve the problem . Can anybody pls help me regarding this .
Download and install Security task manager. (www.neuber.com/taskmanager) It shows up all startup items. You can google the items and find out if that should be start on startup.. This is a good start to get rid of unwanted startup items.
First of all d/l and run Crap Cleaner and ATF-Cleaner to get rid of all the excess cookies and junk off your PC Then try updating and running these free spy-ware progs: Spybot S&D Spyware Blaster Adaware SE Then run a free online scan at: Housecall or BitDefender Post back if you still have problems
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
I am having a similar problem but I cannot logon in any mode. I ran a virus scan on another computer with AVG, Norton and McAfee. They got rid of 2 but still the same problem. I ran chkdsk to see what would happen but still logging off as soon as it logs on. Any suggestions?
