Subject: Windows Explorer doesn't work!OS: Windows VistaCPU/Ram: Not SureModel/Manufacturer: Acer I think- Not Sure |
Comment: Ok, so I'm trying to help out my friend. He has a laptop (not sure which make and model, but it's fairly new). He said he was playing some games and left the computer for a while. When he came back, there was a notice that said that McAfee had found a trojan and had cleaned it. He thought nothing of it and continued playing. The next day, when he tried to turn on his computer, a window popped up and told him that Windows Explorer couldn't work. You can't really do anything unless you open it after clicking restart program, before it loads back up with the same error message. Any ideas? We ran McAfee three times, and nothing worked... I looked at the specifics of the error- this is what it said Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Explorer.exe Application Version: 6.0.6000.16386 Application Timestamp: 4549b091 Fault Module Name: iklqcx.dll_unloaded Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0 Fault Module Timestamp: 46de874a Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 1000176d OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3 Locale ID:1033 Additional Info1: 8d13 Additional Info2: cdca9b1d21d12b77d84f02df48e34311 Additional Info3: same as 1 Additional Info4: same as 2

Reply: (edit)Well. I agree that it is a problem, but I would anyway advice your friend to use Mozilla Firefox. It is a much better and safer browser..

Reply: (edit)Well, I'll tell him, but it's not the internet that we're having a problem with... if it was just the internet I wouldn't be so worried. But thanks though

Reply: (edit)1st of all, try safe mode to see if there is still a problem with explorer. If there is: I'm not too familiar with Vista, but get them to try a system restore to before the problem. **Well. I agree that it is a problem, but I would anyway advice your friend to use Mozilla Firefox. It is a much better and safer browser..** That statement is sure over-rated, both IE and Firefox are safe browsers. I, myself, only use Firefox as a secondary browser in case IE has some problems. IMO Firefox has too many nags and extensions to add while IE already has everything installed. Plus the fact that Firefox won't make links in webmail...that is a real drag. Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

Reply: (edit)My friend also has this problem. The problem does not lie within IE but within Explorer iteself, causing a modal (or dialogue) box to prompt on boot-up initiating an infinate boot sequence. If there is a more conclusive remedy to this problem I would appreciate it.
