Ok, so I'm trying to help out my friend. He has a laptop (not sure which make and model, but it's fairly new). He said he was playing some games and left the computer for a while. When he came back, there was a notice that said that McAfee had found a trojan and had cleaned it. He thought nothing of it and continued playing. The next day, when he tried to turn on his computer, a window popped up and told him that Windows Explorer couldn't work. You can't really do anything unless you open it after clicking restart program, before it loads back up with the same error message. Any ideas? We ran McAfee three times, and nothing worked...

I looked at the specifics of the error- this is what it said

No, do you think that would help? How would I get rid of it so I could run it in normal mode?

Well. I agree that it is a problem, but I would anyway advice your friend to use Mozilla Firefox. It is a much better and safer browser..

Well, I'll tell him, but it's not the internet that we're having a problem with... if it was just the internet I wouldn't be so worried. But thanks though

1st of all, try safe mode to see if there is still a problem with explorer. If there is:
I'm not too familiar with Vista, but get them to try a system restore to before the problem.

That statement is sure over-rated, both IE and Firefox are safe browsers.

I, myself, only use Firefox as a secondary browser in case IE has some problems. IMO Firefox has too many nags and extensions to add while IE already has everything installed. Plus the fact that Firefox won't make links in webmail...that is a real drag.

My friend also has this problem. The problem does not lie within IE but within Explorer iteself, causing a modal (or dialogue) box to prompt on boot-up initiating an infinate boot sequence. If there is a more conclusive remedy to this problem I would appreciate it.

For all of you speaking about IE and Firefox:
This problem is not about Internet Explorer, it's about Windows Explorer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Window...

It's sad I can't help you in any way... Just posted to make the problem clear to these people.
