Windows - Delayed Write Failed ...

June 19, 2011 at 16:42:59
Specs: Windows XP
had a virus - managed to clear it BUT now keep getting the following warning pop-up:
Windows - Delayed Write Failed
something to do with c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\AVG\incavi.avm.prepare

After virus was cleared couldn't get any audio on online tv and radio programmes. The audio is working normally for anything else.

The delayed write error is spurious and shows that the hijacker is still present in memory. I have the same problem. Removed all known items on infected computer. Used Malwarebytes, Spybot, Security Essentials, June 2011 Malware removal tool, All report clean. I have used the gmer rootkit detection utility and see nothing unusual (except maybe an entry from bytemobile called tcpipBM.sys)
bytemobile looks legitimate however.

I have reset winsock, and reset IE Settings. Problem appears on new install of chrome as well. I google "security essentials" click on a microsoft link and get redirected somewhere else.

SeaTools for windows reports the drive is OK (long DST).

anytime i download something that it knows about, I get the delayed write error.
I can download "safe" stuff without error.

This happens in safe mode and normal mode.

Im looking for suggestions as to how to proceed from here since everything I have loaded tells me the system is clean. There are no obvious HijackThis entries.

Additionally, combofix says it's clean. the errors from AVG in the previous messages are because the hijacker knows about AVG and "protects" itself during the download and install.
