Reply: (edit)It sounds like you are infected with Backdoor.OptixPro.10 or Backdoor.OptixPro.12 Go here and download and run the Exe file association fix. http://www.dougknox.com. In the left hand pane click WinXP fixes, then in the main window click File association fixes. Then download 'Hijack This!'. Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, click "Save Log", and copy and paste it in a reply. HijackThis!

Reply: (edit)Bless you Tom41!!! I have 2 dell computers, a desktop and a laptop, and 1 computer I built myself. All machines gave me this problem where I couldn't access any programs after I installed Norton Antivirus. Since I didn't know what was going on and couldn't access anything, I ended up having to fresh install the OS and all my programs on the dell machines, and was about to on the third one until I found this board. If it wasn't for this board, I would be spending the next 6 hours reinstalling the OS and all my programs right now!

Reply: (edit)I'm trying to fix a friends computer and they seem to have the same problem that is described on this site - but nothing is working. I can't run any programs or anything. The machine won't run ANY *.exe - so therefore I can't run regedit to load the regfix or even the hijack this utility. What do you suggest, besides a total re-install?
