Can anyone help me figure out why my Win98 won't load? I'm pretty sure I'm having the same problem as the guy in the following post:
http://www.computing.net/security/wwwboard/forum/4453.html

I didn't see a resolution to this thread, but I'm hoping someone has one. I can't even get started in safe mode. I can get to my prompt and thats it.
When I try to load it gets to the point where it asks me for the windows logon, and immediately after that the task bar flashes for a split second at the bottom and then disappears and I'm left with nothing but my desktop wallpaper. When I CTRL-ALT-DEL I see only NPROTECT and CSINJECT (?) running. In safe mode I get the same thing without the logon or the services running, just blank desktop. This happened for the first time after I went to the MS site, downloaded and installed DirectX8.1 and rebooted.

I looked through my dusty box of puter stuff and couldn't find any 98 startup disks. My roommate lent me an XP CD but it seems my BIOS isn't set up to boot from either my CD or DVD.

Help, Please, Anyone?
