Reply: (edit) Download HJTsetup.exe from this link http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/files... to your desktop. Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This. Please install it there. Continue to click "next" in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue. Put a check by "Create a desktop icon" then click "Next" again. Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there. At the final dialogue box click "Finish" and it will launch Hijack This. Click on the "Do a system scan and save a logfile" button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad. Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log and post it in this thread.

Reply: (edit) Download, install and update A-squared Download Ewido then set it up This Way You will need this later in safe mode Make sure to update this program. Download ATF-Cleaner to your desktop from this Link You will need it later in safe mode. Reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually; Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear; Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter". Choose whichever account that you normally use. Please disable Avast during the cleaning process. From safemode, run HijackThis and put a check by the following entries if still present, close all open windows and browsers except HijackThis and click 'Fix Checked' O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime Exit Hijack This but remain in safe mode. Begin running your scans in this order. Ewido A-squared Run ATF-Cleaner from safe mode.Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. Under Main choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button. Reboot into normal windows, run ATF cleaner and then proceed with the following. Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop. Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan. Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan. Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen. Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start. Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file. When the scan has finished, look if you can click the next icon next to the files found. If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable. This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv Close Dr.Web Cureit. Reply: (edit) Proceed to the Dr.Web Quarantaine folder and delete it's contents. Go to 'Control Panel/ System/System Restore' and check the box ' Turn off system restore on all drives' click 'apply' and 'okay'.Reboot your computer and then enable system restore again and create a 'New Restore Point' by going to 'Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore'. Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/Smitfra... to your Desktop. Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop. Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Open this log and if it shows entries like this-
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ishost.exe FOUND ! C:\WINDOWS\system32\ismon.exe FOUND ! C:\WINDOWS\system32\isnotify.exe FOUND ! Proceed with the steps below. Do not run Option #2 if you are not infected. It could damage your system. Reboot your computer in Safe Mode. Run Smitfraud * Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool. * Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter. * Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish. * You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter. * The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter. A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. If you proceeded to step #2, post the log, if no infections were found, report that.

Reply: (edit) It's amazing but i just posted this in another thread with the same infection. Here it is and please follow the directions. After more research, it appears you are infected with a very difficult to detect 'Rootkit'. I am including this link http://swatrant.blogspot.com/ for removal instructions. Scroll down to ' Removing Mailbot.AZ (aka Rustok.A) Rootkit'.

Reply: (edit)Hi Murr, My laptop is cured! here's what I did: -I didn't do the response number 12 (as you gave another response in the 13th) -I followed thos steps in the page you refered me in response number 13: http://swatrant.blogspot.com/ - the AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta founded a few files with that name : c:\windows\system32\tihckreesh.exe and .tihckreesh.dat I selected the 4 files, click the remove selected items and I reboot as suggested by AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta. - I use the ADSSpy but it founded nothing - the keys in regedit were not there. So, it's the AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta that fix my comupter. I browse the Internet since half an hour and no winAntiVirusPro popup. :-) Thank you very much Murr for your time and your help. I really appreciat it. If we were in a pub, I'd pay you the beers! Buzzman777

Reply: (edit) Haven't found any info on that yet. I't's probably one of the new generation of Rootkits which are difficult to locate and remove.Glad to hear the popups are gone. Flush your Restore Folder once again and run the Kaspersky scan to be sure.
