It is a more or less established fact (??) that win98 is less prone to virus as compared to win2k and XP for whatever reason(s). It may be getting outdated but IT IS less prone.

2. My quastion is .. Between Win2k and XP which one is less prone to virus?? If I am given a choice which one should I choose??

3. I use windows for normal day-to-day work and have no need to run any special application or games.

4. I have the following software and keep these regularly updated.
a. Adaware
b. Spybot S&D
c. Spyware Blaster
d. AVG 7.0 Free
e. NAV
f. Zone Alarm Free 4.5. I haven,t changed over to 5.1 yet.

5. I shall be grateful for any advice which can help me in making up my mind.

The real choice is whether you want to spend your whole life updating and scanning, or use linux.

I would choose Win2K. I have a dual boot system with both (2k and XP)and I like 2K for a whole lot of reasons.

XP has a lot of growing pains and I don't like to finance MS's R&D department.

98, W2K and XP are all prime targets.

All your software choices (except for NAV) keep me clean as a whistle. I don't use NAV because I only like to have one anti-virus program installed. I do go to housecall for another free av scan about every two weeks...makes me feel better.

All in all, for your use and in agreement with Larry, I'd be running Windows 2000Pro SP4.

Another thing to remember is that thousands of folks have to log into their company WANs/Enterprises from home/remote laptops. Most of the servers are set up with Windows XP or 2000 platforms. You may have problems trying to access with Linux, as fine an OS as it is. So there are a lot of factors out there to keep in mind.

However, I understand that most of us deal with standalone PCs or small home networks like mine, so Linux is a viable alternative.

Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime;
Then industry pollutes the water and kills all the fish.
