Has anyone encountered the Win32/Expiro virus? I've been Googling it for a while now and I'm only finding scan results or virus descriptions, but no solutions.

My access to subscription programs like McAffee are limited, I'm mostly looking for a download tool or solution. The virus isn't on my computer [not that I'm aware of hehe] but I'm helping a group research a solution

The most common advice I've found is to disable the system restore [since we're using Windows xp pro.] That's been done so we don't have to scan through so many restore points and we definitely don't want to bring the virus back if it exists in a restore point. I'm finding many reports from infected users on Google that they can find Win32/Expiro in their system, but not remove it. I'm starting to feel the anti-virus developers haven't issued a solution yet.

Just checking if anyone's personally dealt with this virus or knows someone who has.

Here's a link I've been using to search
http://www.cyber-ta.org/releases/ma...

It's a list of Win32/Expiro variations/file names from different vendors

Thanks in advance

I've never heard of it. Sounds like a new type of virus. How does it attack? I'd like more info about how the virus works.

I'm guessing it exploits unsecured machines, running Admin accounts with no passwords and full file access, and the like. Same story nowadays...

It is a new virus...
I heard that Kaspersky can get rid of it.

Try passing that advice onto those that need it.

Did they try Kaspersky?

Sorry for the late response, but we found that Norton and F-Prot [both 30 day trials worked] removed this virus. We were using Norton at first but switched to F-Prot because it's a bit easier on resources [doing multi-user scans on one machine.]

The virus came into our system via USB flash drive and it seemed to corrupt .exe files. I found that it's a more frequent virus in Russia compared to the U.S.

Our original antivirus, Command, wouldn't even detect the virus. I was told Command only scanned the beginning and end of files but not the files in-between [which Win32 Expiro was corrupting.] I should have asked more of what this meant because I feel bad posting something I don't know myself! But that's what the higher ups told me.

Didn't get to try Kaspersky in time but thanks for the advice!
