Reply: (edit)Best turn off system restore when removing any virus or malware, otherwise it might come back again. Switch back on afterwards. DerekW

Reply: (edit)I have tried spy sweeper but it only lasts for around 10minutes then the Win Fixer is back. I tried spy doctor but it only detects and does not remove the Win Fixer. Does anyone know how I can get it removed permanently? how to prevent from getting it again? What programs would you recommend purchasing to prevent this in the future. Thanks everyone.

Reply: (edit)To turn off Windows XP System Restore Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. Click the System Restore tab. Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box. DerekW
