Recently I have been getting pop ups that tell me I need to download Win Fixer 2005. When I try to close them it brings up a prompt to proceed or cancel. when i try to exit out of these it takes me to another website about automatic downloading. How can I get rid of this problem?
Regards
Ash

How recent is recent?
If not too long ago since it started - do a System Restore back to before it started

Do not close popups using any buttons within them. Always close them using the "X" in the upper right corner. Or right-click on the title bar and select Close. :-)
98% of the population is asleep. The other 2% are staring around in complete amazement, abject terror, or both.

Try this-
go to Trend Micro's website at http://www.trendmicro.com and toward the left hand bottom side there is a little link that says Browser Hijacking. Click that and download CWSshredder. Run that- I am WILLING to bet you have what I have (vx2.look2me) or the likes because I have the very same problem and I can readily attest the restore does NOT work. I've tried it and it didn't work for me.

Zenith-
I have this problem and you can click the X and it doesn't work- still get the pages coming up. There is absolutely no way to close this and avoid the pages trying to load. I've gotten to the point I stuff it in the lower corners and ignore it because it won't go away.

Try this vundo (winfixer) removal tool SpywareSweeper
When open the page click on "download SpywareSweeper" from this line:
Delete Win32/Vundo.522752!Trojan automatically >>> Get PestPatrol or Download SpySweeper
Afterwards run ccleaner to clean up the temp files.Remember that ccleaner will empty the recycle bin so if you have anything in there that you want to keep uncheck the box beside "recycle bin".
If you still have problems you will most likely need to post a Hijack This log so that the files associated with the hijacker/malware can be identified. You can download Hijack This at this link <a href="http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/">http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ then place it into a folder of it's on, such as C:\HJT, so that back up copies can be made and not clutter your desktop or other folders and the backup copies of deleted items can be easily located if needed.
Once saved double click HijackThis.exe, and press "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents into the text editor.

I have a friend who had WinFixer 2005 recently - System Restore fixed it - try that first - but make sure you go back to before you got the thing

i had the same problem and it turned out to be a trojan vundo b virus! spy sweeper removed it easily!

Ashely, Sorry about the typo's. Both of these should read SpySweeper.

yes, i agree with jabuck. Ignore the other posts... just go to spysweeper.com and download their free 14-day trial. It works and its free.
Anything made by symantec or norton does NOT work. I suffered many days before spysweeper cleaned it off for good.
