**I just downloaded avast yesterday for a friend who couldn't afford a paid antivir program and it had no problems cleaning winantivirus that was on her pc.**

I just found that while doing a winantivirus removal search. I have no idea what anti-virus program you are using. Whichever one it is is, I would suggest to download Avast Free:

to your desktop. Disable your current AV and install Avast. Then put a checkmark so that it does a booscan on reboot.

Move all it finds into the boot and see if that clears up the problem.

If by chance it doesn't clear it up totally, download all the free spyware progs listed in my link below and follow the instructions.

I had this problem a couple of days ago. I think using vundofix will help get rid of it.

Then run spybot & adaware.

I think the problem is Virtumonde some sort of spyware. Google for it to find other tools to get rid of it.

I thought I had got rid of it yesterday, but Virtumonde was picked up by spybot today.
So check again in a few days.

Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

in reply to clive_pearce, also, if the problem returns you may have to turn off system restore, scan, remove it and if it does not re-appear, turn the system restore back on.

A good free on-line scan that many people overlook is x-cleaner:

give it time to load and then remove all it finds.
