Comment: To make my previous question easier: will repair install of WinXP remove viruses so that when I run virus software right after repair - I can get rid of them? I am talking about the annoying viruses that hang on to explorer.exe and other important "can't be deleted" files. Thanks!

Reply: (edit)that actually can spread the virus, to more files. depending on the virus. running the av scan in safemode ,and replacing /overwriting files that are infected ,with
originals or backups. is the way to go.
