So I know wildtanget has spyware in it, wildtangent came on my computer. I had deleted the files that spybot found, and of course wildtangent games didn't work anymore, but I had to reinstall windows and got them back, this time I didn't delete the files (I did disable the automatic updating though) because the kid I babysit really likes the games and its good for keeping him occupied. So I know all spyware isn't bad, at least that's what I've heard. So what do you guys think of the WT spyware? Should I delete it? If so what are some other free games similar to theirs like the car racing, and that you don't have to have a regular internet browser open for.
Thank you

Just put WildTangent on the excludes list. Open Spybot in 'Advanced Mode' and click the Info & License tab. Then click the 'Product Info' button. Click on the dropdown box and click on WildTangent. Then click the 'Exclude from searches' button.

I've already done that. That is not what my question is about. I'm asking if it's bad spyware and if I should delete it. Thanks anyway.

hi ilt;3lofi,
all spyware is badware!
i don't think you understand. if tom 41 says you can exclude it in spybot, then do it. you know it has spyware, so why do you want to know what to do about it? you say "So I know all spyware isn't bad, at least that's what I've heard."
so use it if you want, but don't ask tom or anyone what to do about it. you got the answer. if you want to use it, use it. if you want to delete it go a head and delete it. its spyware no?
we are trying to give you good advice, spyware is spyware and there is nothing good about it!
all the best,
murve

Let me actually answer your question while skipping the adolescent behaviour of the previous post. Wildtangent is Adware as opposed to Spyware and that is a significant distinction in this case. Wildtangent uses games for product placement. Essentially the games are ads but several of the games are compelling and if you like them, play em. Wildtangent has/had a tie in with Hewlett Packard and came preinstalled on their computers with WindowsME (at least). I doubt HP would allow any such program on their computers as shipped that would cause problems for either the machine or the user after all it's their support call should things go haywire and the companies reputation as well. Wildtangent does not track the users online habits nor does it setup as a bckaground process that takes valuable resources when otherwise not in use. As such it is as benign as any other properly constructed program, adware or not. Wildtangent is a marketing tool wrapped inside free game(s) that does update itself when the user is online and playing a game so you may notice a period of internet activity which is normal. In short, Wildtangent is a respectable company producing quality product with a business model based on the good reputation of the computing community. You may put your concerns to rest in this instance. I would also commend your awareness of an overall problem and the foresight to ask around for opinion. It is to bad you run across the likes of murve and its adolescent equivalent of a nine year old persona dispensing bad information as though it was somebody.
If Murve thinks it just got its short little binary one digit l33t hAx s0re peter bitch slapped it would be right and while I'm man enough to make its momma proud to be a woman in spite of her shameful mistake, consider this to be my contribution to public service not that stepping on these little cockroaches requires much in the way of effort.
