Solved Why is my computer suddenly so slow?

December 16, 2011 at 21:22:21
Specs: Windows xp

Okay, My computer is kind of old, it runs XP, and it has a 75 GB hard drive, 1 GB RAM, and it has been okay with things like videos and most games, but it has suddenly gotten REALLY slow. I checked it for viruses multiple times, and it won't even play YouTube videos in 240p without freezing. It takes 5 minutes to load Google. Could it have been something I downloaded? Or is it a virus the anti-virus programs can't find? Thank you for ANY help!

✔ Best Answer

check your msconfig for your start-up and uncheck everything EXCEPT your anti-virus and your task scheduler.
Then I would suggest you run Ccleaner slim
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/bu...
Clean out the useless files and then click on the registry icon and clean out all it finds...run that untill it is clean. No need to save the files, they are all missing registry items and other junk that is not needed in your registry. It's a safe way to clean it out.

Then run Malwarebytes:

Do a quick scan and fix all it finds.

Norton is also a real SLUGGISH anti-virus, you may want to unload that and install Avast FREE:

Here are some reasons why you should change:

I have the same problem, more times than not. I'm about ready to bring it out side and take a bat to it!! It will say,"script busy" and sometimes take around 5 min. or so to get to the next page. I also have Norton for anti virus protection. This is driving me crazy. My computer is 160 gb and about 10 yrs. old. Could that be the problem?
