I just received an email which for a return address, used one of my defunct email addresses. The attachment it included is named business_dealing.zip. I use Linux, so it was safe to open the zip file. The file it contains is called t_535475.exe. I scanned it with Norton on a windows box (using virus definitions from Oct 31), and it didn't come up as infected with anything.

Might not be a virus, could be a home made program meant to distribute spyware. You click on it and it installs five different programs on you pc, such as searchbars, spyware scanners, etc. basically spyware/adware junk.

Thanks for your response. In the last half-hour Symantec has posted a description of what I received on their site. It's W32.Lodear.A@mm.

"business_dealing.zip" has also been used as a vehicle to distribute "Bagle" viri. :-)
