I have been using a free program called AntiVir. I don't know if it's the best program out there; all I know is that I have been using it for several months, and have not had any virus problems.

I've been using myEtrust AV for 3-4 years with no problems. It's a small, nonobtrusive program that's frequently updated- sometimes twice a day. Not free, but worth the $30 (approx), and a small annual charge.

There are a lot of posts on this subject - the main point(s) being that Norton & McAfee are very heavy on your system - also Norton only automatically updates once a week - even AVG will automatically check & update on a daily basis! You can also find a number of sites which compare the effectiveness of different AV programs & you'll find that they all go up & down the table each month but generally the paid for versions score better than free ones, though speaking from personal experience, AVG has picked up problems which Norton has missed in the past.

I concur with johnr about AVG from Grisoft (Free version). Have used for a couple years and it has been on top of things much faster than McAfie or Norton.

Cheers,

Deepfreeze is a pretty expensive solution.
I would suggest Avast! I've been using it for 3 yrs now and it has caught everything that's been thrown at it, and the on-line up-dates work awesome...unlike most AV's that have to be manually set.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
