I did have AVG6 and worked real good with dialup, downloaded AVG7 but did not install it because seems to be some problems with installing it...not free no more trial, if its free I can't find the url and their web page is a mess 1/2 hour to read it and still could not understand everything. Any suggestions Sue for a different one

That is the same thing that happen to me, it was corrupt so I did it again and it was too short so I knew it would not be any good, I will try your link because I do like AVG product, their web site is too confusing.

AVG7 has caused weirdness & problems in a lot of computers, in dowmloading & setup. Yeah there are some corrupt data things happening. AVG6 was really stable.

Some folks say that you get what you pay for with FREE AVs, and I'm not techy, but I think that's right to some degree. What the FREE ones don't usually supply is auto-update. The big dogs update every 3 hours or so. If you update every 2 or 3 days, you'd better hope you don't get attacked. They update every 3 hours for a REASON, namely, that dung-beetles are writing malware every day and hour and minute.

I downloaded AVG7 and installed it, and seems to work fine, I know its free but with all the costs, I would rather donate after trying for a while, after all I paid for Norton's and it really messed me up, grant you this was 2 years ago, so maybe they have straightened there program out, but I got a virus when I had it and got no help from them but emails that would tell me to check things the time I spent with them I could have reinstalled to begin with and I got so mad I threw it away after using it for 3 months, this computer I have now came with it for free for one year and I did not install it, I just don't like it, and the free one seems to do just as well at least for me I don't take risks by visiting bad sites nor downloading things from them, so for me its enough protection, so I did not get what I paid for.

Try AntiVir: http://www.free-av.com/
It's a straight download (no registration/e-mail required) regular updates, easy install, light on resources, easy to uninstall if need be & it's free for the moment.

Sue just make sure that Nortons is uninstalled , running 2 AV at the same time can cause problems . Also don't have concerns that it is free , I have been using AVG free for 2 years now and have never had a problem with viruses .They keep it well updated. Also if a lot viruses are getting thru I would be casting a weary eye on your ISP who should be scanning the email before it ever gets to you , otherwise I would look for a new ISP.

I also have been using AVG for 1 1/2 years now and love it, but switched to DSL and was not sure it was sufficent, but seems to be I did install it and seems to work fine and even though I have the disk program for Nortons, I have never installed it on this computer. Thanks to everyone.
