I have recently downloaded both AVG free and Avast home edition. I have a copy of Antivir somewhere among my CD's, so I think I have covered most of the free antivirus market. My question is, which is the best one to use? I've heard good things about all three, and I need a replacement antivir program because I don't want to renew my subscription to PC-Cillin. All comments/suggestions welcome.

Well when it comes to free you get what you get because it is free. You cannot complain if does not work nor perform its job 100% because it is free.
Again, free is free. You get what you have not paid for so if bad things happen one cannot complain.
Now AVG is supposed to work very well for a free product and it would be my first choice for a free AV product. My first real choice though is a paid for product.
KTTD
No, I will not fix your computer

Yes Avg is one of the best for a free AV, but I have mcafee anti-virus too but it actually let a virus through??? $70.00????Just to get a virus
So as far as a paid AV ??? I do believe its all how you surf the web" IF IT AINT BROKE - LEAVE IT ALONE "

Definately AVG !!!
More reliable, secure, lite, better scan engine (from McAfee) and better overall performance!!!
I have had McAfee working for 5 months, my computer had 6 viruses/trojans/worms and it couldn;t find them, installed AVG "finito!!"
But hear all the opinions ...
" Don't follow a path that other have set...set a path for others to follow..."

Thanks you guys. While surfing the web though, I found some very bad reviews about the AVG. I'll post the links later, but I have yet to find any on the other two.
Yes KTTD, you do get what you pay for. Unfortunetly, I am a little short of funds right now, so I am just looking for a solution that I may keep for maybe one/two years, or less.

among some others.
If at first you don't succed, cheat!

I agree with poweraid with nod32 as an excellent pay antivirus software, and also agree that Avg is a good free antivirus software.

I personally think Free AV (also known as Antivir) is the best free antivirus software - it does better than AVG on tests run by the Uni of Magdeburg on antivirus software. I use it along with sygate's free personal firewall to good effect
