Hi,
I had the free Zone Alarm and the free PC-Cilin installed but I was having problems on start-up. I was told that the 2 programs together can cause this problem, so I got rid of PC-Cillin, now I just have the free Zone Alarm running. What is the best solution for me to have an effective anti-virus and a firewall running together, as cheap as possible!
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,
There are several good firewalls, but I use ZoneAlarm Pro. Many like Sygate. In any event, it is wise to use only one.Add an antivirus; here I like Norton Antivirus. Norton has frequent deffinition updates and my experience with tech support has been good too.You can get it for about $15 by searching Google for "norton antivirus" and check the various vendors.Webattack.com has many free programs as well.
Good luck
Bill

I would also strongly support what Bill suggests. You can get Norton 2002 for $10 on the interenet, and it, and Zone Alarm will offer you great protection at a reasonable cost. If money is really tight, and you want a free antivirus program there is AVG, Avast and Antivir to look at. Take care and all the best!

Spleen.

While I'm not a user of Norton products I have seen some sales at amazon.com for Norton Internet Security. There are some big mail-in rebates right now.
NIS has Norton anti-virus and the Norton personal firewall.
You would have to check, but I think that it costs $49 with $40 in rebates for $9 final cost.
Hope this helps,
JB

i have been using norton antivirus and zone alarm personal firewall . the performance has been satisfactory but i have faced some problems:
1. zone alarm uninstalling creates some chaos .. my internet connection became very erratic when i did so .. i had to shut down ZA every time i restarted my comp .. may try sygate or outpost.
2. norton antivirus doesnt seem to b very effective against trojans .. i had a couple of them on my comp which remained unoticed for long. its good against the backdoor ones though .. still prefer norton only with spybot for trojans
3.dont know why the prob occured but my ZA is not working since true vector could not be started .. see my message 4778

hope this helps
