A google search on the word "autoupdt.exe" pointed me to this site (a certain Tom W., with no further explanation, advised the OP to remove a file by that name as well as some other files in this thread: http://miataru.computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/148999.html).

I'm researching autoupdt.exe because on one of our computers, ZoneAlarm is asking if we want to allow internet access to c:windows\autoupdt.exe, and we don't know what it is (to be safe, we are denying it access until we know more).

I don't know if Tom W. hangs out on this forum, but maybe he or someone else can tell me what autoupdt.exe is before I delete it - no other info. on it turns up on searches.

Thanks for any info. If you say to delete it, I will. Would like to know what it is though.

Hello Peva,
By principle never let any unkonwn program runing into your computer, unless you know it.
This autoupdate.exe is unknown from the all internet, maybe a sub program to run a principal into your hard drive.
You can try "MSconfig":
Go to "Start", then "Run", type "MSconfig", you see many interfaces, open "startup" which is the last location of "MSconfig", watch if you find this "autoupdate.exe" runing, you will see from which main program is used this autoupdate.exe.
To that point, you can unboomark it in order to forbid a download at windows startup, or erase all the program from "add & remove programs" from your control panel...
Good luck

Essentially if it can't be found here, a site which lists pretty much every legit windows process, then it shouldn't be running.

Yours can't be found here

Good idea, G_B1 (can I call you G?) 8^)

I also just checked sysinfo.org's list. While they list some called autoupd.exe (which also showed up in my google search) and aupdate.exe, they don't list autoupdt.exe (I doublechecked the spelling in our computer that has it).

Safe to say that it would show up somewhere if it was legit. It's outa here!

Thanks!
