Hi!
Since yesterday I have some problems with my computer:
1. .exe files get deleted or are not found, but only .exe files of NOD32, Spybot etc etc. So antivirus and spyware programs.
2. When running an online virusscanner, it will crash somewhere in the middle.
3. Can't boot from cd (windows, knoppix or ultimate boot cd). BIOS is set up to boot from cd first. In My Computer, these cd's are also not read. Normal cd's are read (e.g. with text or something).
4. Someone adviced me to run HijackThis and I did it, but I have no idea what to look at.
I would be very grateful if any of you has an idea how to solve this!Greetings, Esther

how you can check your hjt, just click on this link then paste your log into it:
http://hijackthis.de/Then google the questionable problems to see if it should be removed or not.
It is pretty straight forward, any questions please post back.
You can even list the questionable problems here and we should be able to help you. Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

Thanks for the reply! I deleted one entry, the rest was safe. I also ran dr.web antivirus (the only one that was working), and it got rid of a virus called win32.hllm.beagle. The problem is that the computer still won't make .exe files. Just tried to install Spybot and after installing I got the message that it cannot run, because it couldn't find the .exe file. Also with AVG antivirus the installing process fails, and I get the message that it fails to create an .exe file. Any tips on that? Maybe the virus changed something in my computer that I have to recover, in the register or something?

sounds like you still have lots of spyware. Whem you click on the red link use all the cleaners and spyware progs listed there.
tap f8 on bootup and go into safe mode with networking.
Run this free scan:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/xscan.php
and remove all it finds.Try running the spyware cleaners in safe mode.

OK. So you have NOD32 installed and try to install AVG right? Two anti virus programs cannot work properly on computer, anti virus programs see each other as a virus. So you would better remove and keep only one.. however, the problem seems to be serious.. How about formatting your HDD? I know this sucks, but well.. sometimes it is the only way..

Good suggestions....but....I have tried to boot into safe mode, but it doesn't work. It starts booting, but it gets canceled, so fast I cannot read anything (not the message) and it reboots again.
About NOD32: I don't have it installed. Well, I do, but the virus or spyware or whatever deleted the .exe file, so it is not working and I don't have the original cd from it (got it from a friend), so I tried installing another virusprogram. It completely installs, just not the .exe file, which is quite essential ;-). Many times I have fixed my computer by myself, but this time I have no clue what else I can do. Any more tips would be helpfull and much appreciated!
Esther

Surekas, reformatting is a LAST resort. Most problems can be fixed. Reformat is one the first things a company tech (Dell, Gateway, etc) will say when trouble comes up...they don't care what programs you have to re-install.
Esther, download regcleaner:
http://majorgeeks.com/download460.html
and remove all instances of Nod32 as well as AVG.
If you ever had Norton installed on your PC, make sure to use the norton removal tool from their website and then also remove any remnants using regcleaner. For safe made...have patience. You have to tap f8 almost immediately when you boot. Then give it time to come up...from 1 minute to sometimes one hour or more, but it will come up.
Did you get a chance to do the online scan I suggested?
If ou have an actual XP install disc you may have to do a repair install:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...You may also want to give Avast a shot after removing all the remnants of the other AV's. Download it to your desktop, install it and allow it to do a bootscan on reboot. Move EVERYTHING it finds to the chest. If the chest fills up you can delete all the others.
See how you make outSome HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

Okay, I am now removing some spyware with those programs that are on the website you linked.
About booting in safe mode: I have hit F8, the computer gives me the change to choose boot in safe mode, I choose that, it starts something (a lot of filenames are passing my window), and then it starts rebooting, saying that the last boot was interrupted and I have to reboot. It prevents me from booting in safe mode over and over again, will only start up in the normal mode. This is driving me crazy!!!
Please some advice on how to format my HDD if that is the only solution. Do you think formatting it will make my computer read the bootable cds again? And let me install windows? Okay, this is a last resort solution, so I don't want to do it immediately, but it is an option that I keep in mind.
The funny thing is that I can use my computer, but it is not safe, as it won't let me install antivirus programs and not run bootable cd's, so it will crash someday because of malicious spyware or virusses or something.....

do u have the actual XP install disc (NOT a restoration disc), then try the repair option I listed.
If you only have restoration discs you can do a complete XP install by following the instructions.
I myself have hardly ever had to do a fresh installation with Win XP.You may have to go into bios to set your laptop to boot from CDrom 1st.

Maybe the deleting/not installing .exe files of antispyware programs and antivirus programs is not related to the problem with the cds...who knows. Maybe the problem of the cds existed before and I just didn't notice because since a long time I didn't have to use bootable cds.

My computer is set to boot from cdrom first, but it doesn't do it.... :-( That is one of the major problems I am having. And I have an installation cd of Windows, it is "just" not read by the computer. When starting up it is reading the cdrom, but it stops and continues to boot from the harddisk. No matter what I try, it will not boot from cd, whatever cd.
I know all about installing and repairing windows, have done it many times before, that is not the problem, unfortunately, if it was, life would have been simple ;-). I am getting a bit desperate. Maybe I can ask one of my friends to have a look at it in some days/weeks, don't know when he has time.

Hi Esther, Sophia had the same problem.
http://computing.net/security/wwwbo...Hope the tips help, until jabuck, our only hijackthis
log reader stops by.

Thanks for that link Abnormal! It seems our problems are the same. I had the win32.hllm.beagle virus (got removed yesterday..hopefully forgood), but still got problems. Now I ran combofix and it says (in the beginning, will not post all of the log, until someone requires to read it):
C:\WINDOWS\exefld
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\hidr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\srosa.sysSame as Sophia had! Great that you found that link for me, as I have been searching, but couldn't find anything similar.
Well,I will start reading the whole post to see if I can fix my problems!

are you hitting any key when you insert the disc so it will boot from the cd?
Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

@XPUser4Real: I didn't even get to the message where I could hit any key to boot from cd...It just boots from the harddisk. Anyway, I am much worse right now. I am working on a really prehistoric laptop that I dug out from the dirt in the basement....My other computer won't boot anymore. Not in safe mode, not in normal mode. In normal mode it just gets completely stuck in the window where you see the word Windows, with the blue thingy moving around. The blue thing stops moving and the computer completely gets stuck. I have left it like that for some hours to see if it would continue, but nothing. I guess now all I can do is to find someone who can format my HDD when connected to his/her laptop....which will probably be difficult, as it is an oldie as well. Otherwise I will have to bring it to the real doctor (read: computermechanic) :-(.
Thnx for all the help and advice though!

if you have your PC set up in bios to boot from cdrom first and it still boots to HD first, then sorry, I'm stumped...anyone else?
I just thought of this...why not go into bios reset the defaults, reboot, then reboot one more time and change the boot order to cdrom in the bios again.
That might just make it act different and maybe you will be able to boot up using the XP CD.Some HELP in posting on Cnet plus free progs and instructions Glad to Help!

Lol, I am stumped too...I tried setting it to default...the default is: diskette, CDROM, HD. Nothing!
This evening I met someone that can put my HD into some external device and connect it through USB to his computer to format my HD, so I will try that. He also suggested to take out my HD and see if it then will boot from cd, so if I get the screws of the HD unscrewed, I will try that first.

Hi Esther, sorry about your problem.
See if the someone you met can replace the
Missing or corrupt ntoskrnl.exe file that the virus killed.Good luck
