What Registry Cleaner to Choose in 2010?

January 21, 2010 at 00:53:28
Specs: Windows 7

Lately I am facing some very weird RunDLL32 errors while I am trying to run programs I need for work. Also some shortcuts are blank, and no longer point to correct application.

Some of my so-called tech friends have recommended me to install good antivirus with built-in firewall, which I already have (Kaspersky 2010) and get some good registry cleaner software.

Since I am a tech newbie, I've been checking many reviews like http://fixexe.com/best-5-registry-f... and most of them seem to recommend Registry Easy, or ACA Utilities.

I hope you guys can advise me what registry cleaner to choose, if choose at all? :)

Any help would be more than welcome!

Most forums will advise against using any registry cleaner as most of them can do more harm than good by removing entries from it that should not be removed.

The only time it would be essential to mess with the registry is to rid your PC of some types of malware infection, but a registry cleaner would not be able to do that.

Those who make registry cleaners will naturally say they are essential to prevent errors. I confess to using one myself on a regular basis, but only to stop it getting bigger and bigger in size as it builds up with redundant entries from uninstalled software.

Which do I use? It's called 'Ccleaner' (actually does more than clean the registry) and it has never caused me any problems:

You can try Registry Mechanic 9 (Shareware) or Registry Easy (Freeware).

You can choose some registry software here: Registry Software

Ann, I replied to your post on another forum

Check out the links below.

Which programs when you try to run them cause the error message?

You can easily create new shortcuts if it's only a few. You could also try the LNK file association fix at the link below.

As far as regidtry cleaners if you're not familiar with the registry stay away from them as they can do more harm than good imho.
