Specs: Windows XP
Ok I just went into windows explorer and saw that my windows foler icon looks like this....

what can this be? I have never seen this before. I scanned my system with AVG free as well as Avast free and it came up with nothing. I am running Win XP Pro and just finished reformatting my system due to getting the Virut.56 virus and Win32.Vitro I also deleted all of my downloaded programs programs and started from scratch.

Thank you in advance for all your help.

Hi Tantrix,
it looks like a trojan infection, you got Win32 Virut trojan? how did u remove that? just formatted your windows? if so than it might has not gone completely because viruses and trojans also infected other partitions/drive of your hard disk. anyways, you should run an anti trojan/anti virus scan on your pc, i suggest THREAT FIRE (free)anti virus and trojan killer tool http://darfuns.com/download-threat-...

Tantrix, Right click your Desktop, choose Properties, under the Settings tab change the Color quality from 32 bit to 16 bit, click Apply/OK. Now go back and change the Color quality from 16 bit to 32 bit, click Apply/OK. This should rebuild the iconcache.db file and may correct the problem.

You could also download Tweak UI at the link below. After you install it you'll find it in Start>Programs>Powertoys for Windows XP>Tweak UI. Open it and under Repair then choose Rebuild Icons.

That icon is a Windows icon and I doubt that the problem is virus/malware related but that your iconcache.db file got corrupted and needs to be rebuilt.
