I was looking around in my system and found this file: plugin131_02.trace. I kmow it is is related to the java console I downloaded (due to a prompt from Netscape). But it's the trace part that I am wondering about. It ist "tracing" me on the web? I did a google search and didn't find anything, pages that gave 404 not found errors and one previous post on this forum which no one answered about that part of the question.

Thanks for any info.

To test webpages... Gotta validate them under all the browsers...

If everyone would just use IE [the best browser] it wouldnt be an issue :).

hi suzi,
i'm not sure but it could be a trojan buffer overflow file that broadcasts out like the sti.trace file. also you may want to check if you have these files hanging around in your windows directory: twain.log and twunk.mtx which are also buffer overflows. you can delete these.
all the best,
murve

To theKid: SMUOD is right, that is the only reason I use Netscape. I had this one page with javascript that would not work in Netscape then one time when I went to look at it, I got this prompt to download the java thing, so I did. Now I can see the js on the page. (It's a page on my site with the Trend Micro virus feed in case you are curious :)

Murve, thanks, I will check that out. If it was trying to broadcast out, would I get an alert from ZAP?

When I'm surfing the web, sometimes the little java icon shows up in the system tray, but it goes away when I close the browser. This is in IE 6 which is my browser of choice.

hi suzi,
can't be sure as i don't use zone alarm anymore, but i would assume that zone alarm would register an alert if any file would be broadcasting out.
all the best, take care,
murve

Geesh!!!! you stupid winblows lovers!!! IE is the worst browser OUT there!!!! its full of security hacks and lots of ways to get a virus!!! And besides, you try finding Internet exploder on LINUX and UNIX machines!!! just dont work!

Now to anwser the question, plugin131_02.trace is a trace file to display the Java console output! If you looked that up on sun.com the makers of Java you would know this!

LINUX RULES!
