I have never had even a semi-serious outbreak or infection concerning spyware, viruses and adware in general
I run Windows XP and have AVG antivirus and the windows firewall, i also use regcure and spybot - search and destroy
And my email is scanned before openingIm real sure i have anything i need, but can anyone recommend any better programs to use?
Or anything to add just for the extra safety

computer crazy,
actually you should only have ONE anti-virus running at a time on a PC. Even though I myself believe that Avast is a better real-time protection than AVG I would only suggest it as an alternative. :)Jenova20, I would suggest Ccleaner (slim....no toolbar) which is also free and set it so that it cleans your PC every time you boot up or reboot and also WinPatrol which is also free. It will keep track of what is trying to load onto your PC.
I add those to every PC that I clean for clients and they work great.

Hi your friendly neighborhood spider-eatin man
All those free progs are listed on one page in my signature link for easy access...ENJOY.Ccleaner gets rid of unused files and junk on your PC and also cleans out the cookies. It's also good to click on the registry icon and let Ccleaner delete all unused registry entries thus keeping the PC running at it's best.
WinPatrol is a watchdog and will pop up and bark when something tries to get loaded onto your PC and run at start-up. You have the option to allow it or stop it.

and find out how things work and what they are for

In the way of a firewall i only have windows firewall, should i switch to zonealarm?
I have heard Comodo Internet Security is better though
Any thoughts?

I think that Comodo firewall is far to heavy , although the firewall can be lowered , I have just been dealing with a problem on another forum where Comodo was set to high .
PC-Tools make a nice firewall ( free ) for 32 bit XP , Vista 32\64 bit , 7 32\64 bit .
