HiJack This reports an odsp.dll in the LSP stack of my wife's computer; the computer is running normally with no pop-ups, browser hijacking, etc. The Castle Cops site LSP page lists odsp, but declares it an "unknown". I am not going to delete it until I know what it is; she has proprietary software to access the network where she works, and I am not sure if it is part of their software or not.
Can anyone tell me where this odsp.dll came from?

You've tried searching for the file and checking company information, etc. in properties?

Yes - listed as an "unknown application" only. No other information. Thanks

ranchhand, Does it look like this (O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\ondemand\odsp.dll), most likely so, or similar, I would think. Read the lsp.txt at this link http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm then follow the direction to remove the varment. I would suggest that you download this winsock repair tool http://www.subratam.org/index.php?page=removal and run it afterwards. Do not run internet explorer until rebooting the computer.

Thanks jabuck - yes, I am aware of LSP fix and the dangers of breaking the internet connection. My problem is identifying this thing before I nuke it. I dread the thought, but I will probably have to try to contact Citrix Corp. to find out if this is their file (that is the proprietary software on our computer needed for my wife to access her company network from home). I really hate trying to communicate with big corporations.

ranchhand,

odsp.dll is part of the L ayered S ervice P rovider and is intergrated into the networking services of your pc the LSP has access to all TCP/IP traffic coming into and leaving a computer....

If this is used by spyware, then it can be used to spy on the habits and data of the pc user...

QUOTE: have to try to contact Citrix Corp. to find out if this is their file (that is the proprietary software on our computer needed for my wife to access her company network from home)...

the Lsp can also be used by the company your wife works for for "Stealthed" keylogger/spyware software that is installed manually by the companies software.Im not trying to scare you here,im just trying to give you a few scenarios..

You can aslo search the registry for Odsp files for example: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

And see if there is any Odsp keys
that are not being used to run. Also check your ProgramFiles, and C:\Windows or C:\Winnt. for Odsp files/folders,and you may want to search in your Add/remove and task manager.

I hope i helped?

TAKE CARE!

Okay,I found it. For those who are interested, it is from a company called Aventail that provides SSL VPNs (Secure Socket Layer Virtual Private Networks) and my wife's company uses Aventail to access the network enterprise from a computer outside the network.
