I have windows xp and DSL and when my Norton Antivirus is on, it constantly is popping up and saying it's scanning messages being sent, nothing is in my sent or outbox, it's popping up like over 200 and then my computer locks up. I thought it was the backdoor viruses but I can't find anything in my registry that pertains to them. Please help! I have ran my Windows XP updates and also downloaded current virus defitions and ran a full scan disk and no viruses but when I restart my computer it goes through scandisk and says it's fixing errors and moving Norton files and says something about Recovering NOrton Orphan file. Please help thank you.

install a firewall such as sygate, then you'll see what is making the connection. also run an online scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ google search for sygate setup faqs

I also would try running a few of the mass mailer worm removal tools such as http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.swen.a@mm.removal.tool.html and it probably would be a good idea to download and run hijackthis and post the log here, and someone will help you figure out which ones to remove if any.
