My computer was working overtime, I opened task manager to find far too many processes running. I closed almost everything but it was still freezing, still acting like it was overloaded. I ended up running AVG, I knew something was wrong. I found 1 virus, something that has obviously gotten there since it last ran this morning. It was actually a Trojan, something called Dialer.6.s. Does anyone know what this is? Ive searched but had no luck. I'd just like to know what it is, what it does, and if putting it in the vault was enough. Any info you can give is appreciated.

hi momof4, any type of trojan dialer is bad, if you are keeping it in your vault i would suggest you send the file to grisoft(avg)so that they can have a look at it. you may find yourself with a huge phone bill, as a dialer is what a dialer does, its a trojan that permits a hacker, cracker to dial anywhere using your computer. It uses the modem to dial phone numbers that have a specific area code. to see if you are still trojaned go to www.thepublicworks.com security section and link to pcflank and do their trojan scan if you wish download a free copy of A Squared anti-trojan. you can link to it by linking to Ants in free anti-trojans. download it get latest defs and scan your machine. hope this helps, all the best, murve

Can a dialer use my machine even though Im on broadband? I dont have a dialup modem installed anymore and Im firewalled. I also have a block on through the phone company to stop long distance outgoing calls like this...I learned fast when my first phone bill after getting internet had a few hundred dollars of unknown calls. Can it go through my broadband connection?

Get spybot search and destroy and then update it and run it . This is very good at getting rid of stuff like that .

hi momo, to my knowlege, i don't think it could affect your broadband modem, it only affects telephone dialup modems, but you wouldn't want a dialer on your machine as it would be broadcasting out from an open port telling others on the internet that your computer is open for business. since you have a firewall your ports should be in stealth state so i wouldn't worry, but as vipergg says get spybot and run it, and get rid of it, can't hurt. all the best, murve

Thanks guys. I have Spybot Search & Destroy, and also AdAware. I run both regularly. I also use a hardware firewall and ZA firewall with AVG antivirus. Amazing that anything can get through...lol. I feel better knowing that things should be fine now though.

Strange thing this is the only site that mentions this Dialer.6.s I too recently got infected. AVG found it put it in the vault. I then deleted it from the vault, and did a search on my hard drive and it let me to USER.DAT. I want to avoid downloading too many anti trojan software as they are often trojans themselves. Has anyone else heard more about this Dialer?
Any info much appreciate..
