Comment: I installed a firewall on a friends Windows XP Laptop recently, after installation a program called backweb-4448364.exe was asking for permission to get on the web – of course with a name like that it didn’t get permission! Has anyone come across this program or can anyone tell me what it is – it sounds like a trojan doesn’t it? Thanks DaveB

Reply: (edit)Every Hewlett Packard operating system I have seen has Back Web preinstalled. You can get it from installing some Logitech products via installation disc also. What is it?It is a program that transmits from your computer to an ad server. It's adware/spyware.It wants internet access so that it can track you.I removed it from my system. It may effect H/P support feature. It has no effect however on the windows updates.Spybot kills the Back Web bot.I'm not sure about Adaware. That's the best way to get rid of it.I tried the uninstall file associated with BW and it didn't work, wasn't listed in "add/remove programs" either. On 98, you can use that feature. Not on XP home though.Wilders.org has both Adaware and Spybot free under "free tools' section. If you download & install one or both of these programs, update before scanning.Hope this helps.JB
