What is a good firewall other than Sygate? It would be best if i could download a demo of it.

Ryan.Sorry to hear about your problems with Sygate.wilders.org has free firewalls listed, reviewed and available as downloads. That site explains the different types, application based versus rules based. If it was me looking,I'd check out Kerio.I haven't tried it.But I hear a lot of good things about it from people that have it.It's also free for home use and stealths ports.Hope this helps you.JB

Check out the PC Flank website for reviews and suggestions. There are a few questions you need to answer before you choose one: Do you want it to be easy to use? Do you care about the resources it uses? How computer savvy are you? Easy to use programs and highly rated programs are Sygate, Zone Alarm and Outpost. Lowest resources would be yje one from Kerio. All are free and can be downloaded for evaluation. Take care and all the best!

Ryan. I just read your post about Sygate. Have you scanned for any virus/trojan problems. Some variants will attack a firewall. I have never heard of the type of downloading problems you are having. Total inability to connect or do a download yes, but not corruption. Some website scans you can use are Symantec, Trend Micro, Panda, Macafee for antivirus. trojans PC Flank, Swatit(free program) from the Lockdown Corp or anti-trojan programs for a 30 day trial from PC Flank. Take care!

hi ryan,
i've just read your previous post and like the capt. and others in this post can not understand how a firewall can corrupt your downloads etc.
you may have a virus or a trojan, to be sure go to pcflank and do the trojan and port test, then do an anti-trojan scan. it may also be that your firewall is not configured properly, for info on firewalls go to www.thepublicworks.com security section and link to firewalls and security, firewall security and firewall guide.
if you are looking for a good free and one with a small footprint go with kerio.
hope this helps, all the best,
murve
