This started about two days ago... I was playin around and every once in a while I would hear an electronic noise. It seems like it happens whenever a pop-up occurs in my web browser - when I click certain links, I hear the noise, and the link is killed - so I can't go to said links. THing is I don't have any pop-up killer software on my computer... I checked all my msconfig stuff and it all looks fine, no viruses that norton can detect, and no trojans that moosoft could find... It won'y allow me to open certain links, and others I can just fine... The noise is driving me nuts - any help would be appreciated!

The strange noise is a new one. I have read of over 20 different posts in different forum the past four days of people who suddenly can not access some web sites. None referanced strange sounds. Ad-Aware, SpyBot and Anti-Viru/Trojan/Worm have not detected anything on these systems. So its either a local Internet problem (not resolving URLs)or a new hack.

It would be interesting to know who your ISP is, what area you are in, and some of the URLs that fail and what popups are associated with the problem. And if there is any program you installed recently or web site you visited that started the problem.

Also check and see if you have a C:\Windows\HOSTS files (HOSTS.SAM is normal) that could be blocking access to some sites.

My ISP.. damn, I'll hafta work on that one, it's some crazy start-up company my appartment has a contract with... my area: I'm in Minneapolis. Um as for the URLs it seems completely indiscriminent. Some sites I can access and others I cannot. But almost all of the adware that pops up normally is blocked. (that is how I first noticed this problem, the noise seemed to be coming from no where, then I realized I wasn't getting any pop-ups and that it was blocking them). I searched my comp for hosts.sam - and apparently, it is there - I'm not sure what it does =/ I have not added any programs, with the exception of THE CLEANER from moosoft.com (trojan cleaner). ANd I haven't visited suspicious web sites I don't think. I appreciate any help - it's good to know I'm not the only one with this prob. OH and when I try to access one of the sites, IE gives a message in the lower left corner saying: error on page. The noise is driving me bonkers and wouldn't be so bad, except it blocks access to a site I need for a class heh *sigh* O well, I'll avoid making this any lengthier - Thanks for the response JACKG! peace and pasta all!

I'm an idiot for not posting this originally: I had 18 BDE Trojans, about 2 weeks ago on my computer... but I cleaned 'em , and the noise came later - they re prolly related tho eh? heh
