Comment:

My brother downloaded a pic from kazaa, it has a very very long name ( Copy (2) of Pokemon(etc).bmp).

I can't delete it, when I try to right click on it I only have the "Preview, edit, print, upload, open with or send to" options. If I try scanning it with norton or wiping it with a prog I get an error saying that the file doesn't exist. It's about 20k.

I got the warning a few days ago via norton that I had the Nimda virus (another file is infected, not the one I'm talking about). I downloaded the removal tool to get rid of this other virus and it always hang when scanning the weird file...

Apart from that, the file doesn't appear to cause trouble in any way...

Anyone has an idea?

Thanks

You might try additinal virus scans from TREND MICRO, MACAFEE,PANDA and then an anti-trojan scanning program like Agnitum's TAUSCAN, TDS, Trojan Remover from MOOSOFT. All of these packages have a 30 day free trial. All the best!

Did you already go to the map of KaZaa (through My Computer), or did you only try to delete it inside the program KaZaA?

Try downloading SysShield File Shredder to eliminate the file (it's freeware without spyware) and try the less known Virusscan AVG (also freeware) site:
http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_index.htm

This might do the trick...

Please let me know through mail if it works.

Ahhh another kazaa virus.I used kazaa and it does indeed offer a lot of free music downloads etc..But i had a close call with it and now I dont use any P2P sites at all cuz nothin is free.Trust me!!!!!A side issue with kazaa;what function does Brilliant Digital do besides get packaged in kazaa downloads and hidden in pc registry? My reg cleaner has found that (as well as Gator)on more than one occasion.

well, try also a scandisk, maybe the file is really corrupted. :-)
Uninstall Kazaa.
Use an antivirus and trojan-removal software.

im not sure if Nimda is a virus or a trojan. But if you got it from Kazaa....about 99% of the time it will be a trojan and thats the reason why your antivirus cant delete it. Trojans have the habit of inserting themselves in the registry and renaming themselves and locking themselves. Anti Virus programs dont usually work well against trojans. Trojan Remover on the other hand, Do a registry scan before they do a file scan. So if they find a registry entry that is a known trojan horse....they will delete it or disable it or rename it (according to what you'd like) and then making it possible to delete/recover the infected files with its scanning Utility or the Virus Scanners. BEWARE.....sometimes a virus scanner will say that it effectively deleted or quarantined an infected file. That doesnt mean that it stopped it before it got to your registry and dub and copy and rename itself. So do a trojan horse scan anyways!
