A few days ago my internet browsing began to suffer interruptions from internet companies whose homepages would - without my doing anything - open on my monitor. This happens about every 5 mins, the content of these websites typically bears no relation to the content of those I'm viewing before the interruptions take place and they're usually of the tacky spam variety: loans, online lottery/gambling etc. This hijacking usually - but not always - takes place when I am navigating from one site to another.
What are these and how do I get rid of them? Neither my free anti-virus software (AVG) or my free adware remover (adaware) detect a problem. Perhaps I need to spend a little money and upgrade?
