Hello,
I have Vista Basic x64 and in the past year or so,finding x64 antispyware apps that work on Vista has not been easy.Lucklily, Webroot just came out with Spy Sweeper for x64, so I purchased a licence and installed it.
In my opinion, it's an ok product, but I'd rather have Spyware Doctor, and I will soon because they just released a beta for x64. Until then I put up with the Webroot. However one of the things about it that bothers me is that I can't get the service to go to manual.
You see I do not like any apps in the system tray than are really necessary, so I've disabled it from start up, but then when I went to change the service to manual instead of automatic, it would not let me.
Even in auroruns, I tried to uncheck the box for it, and it wouldn't let me. I've been able to do that for many other types of apps that are referenced in services, like Diskeeper. I have that set on manual, but not Spy Sweeper. It's like it's locked.
I went through this before and got so frustrated by it,I uninstalled it, At least I tried to uninstall it. It gave me all kinds of problems, but I finally was able to use my registry management tool and reboot, and go into safe mode, and all of that, and I finally was able to remove it all.
But I have badly needed a decent antispyware app, so I reinstalled it, thinking that problem I mentioned above would not come up again. So do you have any idea of how to change this where it's not consuming resources? It's not running in msconfig, but autoruns shows it active under services.
I look forward to your comments
