Comment: Something's freaky with one of my computers. It is directly wired to the router, and for some reason it can't seem to find the internet. No programs that require the internet work, and IE redirects to searchcentrix (which i need to remove, but can't because i can't download anything >_<) It is a linksys wireless router, and the computer i'm on right now works fine, and so do the rest of them that are connected via wireless. Does anyone know what's up?

Reply: (edit)Here is my advice. Ok, a router is used to filter traffic in and out of your pc. A computer program, like IE or yahoo messenger use ports to communicate. The problem here seems to be that the router has locked down all ports and isnt allowing anything to communicate. Simple solution, first test my theory, by removing the router, if the internet works after you remove the router then you need to get into the router and open up the basic ports. Then when you use programs that use certain ports, open them as needed...hope this helps

Reply: (edit)Leave the router removed untill you have the internet working, it will rule out one possible problem. Second thing to do, is to now begin testing your OS settings. First open up command prompt and type this ping www.yahoo.com then ping 120.0.0.1 /t then ipconfig /all then ipconfig /release all then ipconfig /renew all then ipconfig /all then goto control panel->system open up device manager and verify that the network car is properly installed. (if it has an explanation point by it you need to reinstall the driver for it) if this doesnt work then goto IE and open tools-> internet options, click the "set up a LAN" button, then follow the instructions and try that. if still nothing call your isp, they will walk you through it. Also report back with findings of those pings, and let me know exactly what happened. Also, what was the last time you had internet on it, did it ever work, did it go out while using it, did you install anything new? This is very helpful to know...
