Hello I want to post my hijackthis log to their forum due to a winfixer/virtumonde reaccuring problem how do I do that? I have the log saved now I just want someone to look at it and help me

Then download ccleaner to clean out all your temp files. Make sure there is not anything in the recycle bin that you need as ccleaner will delete recycle bin items unless checked not to do so.Run it in safe mode after you run Ewido

Then Download Ewido Security Suite then set it up this way Ewido Setup Instructions reboot into Safe Mode and run Ewido

When the scan has completed, Ewido will create a report.txt file. Click the "Save Report" button on the bottom of the screen and save the log to your desktop in case you need it later.

Please reboot into normal mode and post the ewido log and you Hijack This log.

I am trying to make this a little quicker because I have had a tech over here in the past few days which we thought had gotten rid of this WinFixer/adware virtumonde which are connected. But it has returned! I downloaded SpySweeper (the free trial version) and it did show Adware/virtumonde found. But I have to purchase it to remove it. I am a little leary of doing this from someone elses remark saying it didn't work. Symantics fix/removal tool does not work! Plus I read somewhere that if you didn't have the updated Java that people were getting this adware...my neighbor has it also! So do you still suggest the same???

Have you had Ewido before or was this the first time you have tried to use it.

I don't mean to appear lame but HT log do you mean my hijack this log? I just got Ewido when I started getting popups from Winfixer. Please give me detailed instuctions I am very frustrated at this point and want this thing gone once and forever! How do I post this HT log you mention and where do I get it?

Most of Symantec's removal tools (depending on the threat) have to be run in safe mode. Merely save the removal tool using a virus free computer, to a formatted clean floppy disc, start the affected computer in safe mode, insert the floppy, and run it from there. Then reboot in normal mode and see if the problem persists.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.

After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.

Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat

You will first be presented with a warning.

Run ewido from safe mode and Then reboot to normal download ccleaner from the folling link,reboot into safe mode and run it ccleaner to clean out all your temp files. Make sure there is not anything in the recycle bin that you need as ccleaner will delete recycle bin items unless checked not to do so.

Post a new HT log.

I'm glad you questioned that, I made an error in the second file which would not hurt anything just would not kill the bug. Should be:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dbeeg.*

The name is always backward and written this way means delete ever file that begins with that name.

When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to the desktop, then copy/paste into the text editor and post it along with an Ewido log and a new Hijack This log.

Yea you're telling me about confusing, I stay confused. Some of this is repetitive but it is because we remove a few of the infections at a time to keep confusion at a minimum.

That was an old HT version log.To get rid of the old version go to start>control panel>add/remove programs>scroll down to "Hijack This 1.98.2>right click on it>click change/remove then follow the prompts to uninstall it.

While you are in add/remove progarms look for for these items and if found uninstall them:

istbar

elite tool bar

elite bar.

Next part of the problem in removing the BHO's is that real time protection Spybot's tea timer is running so we'll need to temporaryly turn it off. To do so:

Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
On the left hand side, Click on Tools
Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
Restart your computer.

As far as I can tell you did not post an Ewido log.

Post a HT log from the 1.99 version and we will try deleting the BHO's again.

Note when I ran the Ewido suite the very first time in safe mode before I changed the spelling of geedb.* to dbeeg.* the elite tool bar and the elite bar where there. When I ran it once again after deleting the items found these two were still there. Yes, it supposebly cleaned them but that's what the report showed the first time but they came back...I wouldn't doupt if they are still there...

Hmm I am a little confused you say run spybot in Advanced mode which it is already. Then you say to turn off tea timer. Do you want me run first or turn off tea timer, restart and then run...sorry just want to make sure...

I'm guessing that you turned off tea timer.

Run the HT scan, close all windows and browsers except HT. place a check in the box to the left of each of the following items then press"fix checked".

Here is the Ht log after I unchecked Resident tea timer, restarted my computer...I will now close all windows and browsers and try to fix the four items
