I think I have the same problem but my comp is infected with a different virus. I ran Nortin Scan on it and was able to quarantine most of the infected files and repaired most of my files. However my explore.exe,23022529.exe,230B231E.exe,4C1D68E9.exe,and msonfo32.exe cannot be repaired nor quarantined. It's telling me that it may be write-protected or i currently in use. Can someone please help me with how to to remove this virus or fix this problem. The virus name is W32.Valla.2048. Honestly I dont even know how I got this virus since I scan all my emails with Norton before I open any attached files.

In some cases, depending on which files have been infected, Norton AntiVirus may not be able to repair all the infected files while in Windows.

In such cases, you will need to run the Norton AntiVirus DOS scanner. If Norton AntiVirus was able to repair all the infected files, you will not need to run the DOS scanner.

Good luck

Hi auley74,

Umm, since you tried removing using Norton and it does not work, try this:
Go to the following site http://www.norman.com/virus_info/w32_valla_2048.shtml and download and use "Vallafix" in the Detection and removal section. Worth a try.

And if that does not work then do searches on the Aliases: W32/Harmony.A, W32/Rox-A, Win32.Xorala

When reading I seen this type of virus can be the some of the harder virus types to remove. Luckily the damage is nil.

Good Luck!

Hi, I have the same virus. I use AVG antivirus which recommends you download a dos program to clean it in dos. However i use windows xp pro and the files are in ntfs format. How do i access these in dos? Can i start xp in dos mode so that i can access the ntfs file system. Any help is much appreciated. many thanks, ash

Try Solo Antivirus ( http://www.srnmicro.com ) It has the ability to knockdown viruses which can't be cleaned by other antivirus scanners.

to use the fix from norman.com, you need to stop all non-essential programs, which means you need to use task manager (ctrl-shift-esc)to stop anything not part of the system. there are places online you can look for what the basic processes are, and you should stop all the other processes before running the fix. also remember to turn off system restore.
