I have a question about the w32.spybot.worm virus. The latest version of Norton flagged this on my computer (windows XP). It said that the file iexplore.exe was infected with the virus, but that it could not delete the file. The file is the executable for internet explorer and is in my windows\system32 directory. On symantec's website it says to delete any files that are infected with the virus. I tried deleting the file, but it said "Cannot delte IEXPLORE.EXE, Make sure the disk is not full or write protected or that the file is not currently in use" I was not using internet explorer at the time. The folder that contains the file C:\\WINDOWS\System32 was marked as read only. Everytime I tried changing this the computer acted as if it was changing it and all files beneath it, but then when I clicked properties again it still said read-only.
Can someone please tell me how I can get rid of this virus and how I delete IEXPLORE.exe

Have you tried deleting it from the "safe mode". It depends on who made your computer, but try using the F8 key while the computer is starting up. Some computers use F2 or F10 if F8 does not work.

Symmantic's website also says to do it in safe-mode. By the way, you will need to reinstall Internet Explorer if you delete iexplore.exe (www.download.com)
